Rejection: the most common and most painful emotional wound

From a Facebook Live video by Joy on July 26

REJECTION IS:

           👇

  1. the most common emotional wound

                AND

  1. the most painful emotional wound

FACTS:

👉 The same areas of our brain are activated when we experience rejection as when we experience physical pain.

(This is why many addictions form from root of rejection. We find ourselves looking for a means to numb the physiological and emotional pain brought on by the rejection)

👉 Being asked to recall a recent rejection has made people score significantly lower on  IQ tests.

Woman at the well—>

  • rejected 5x

  • She was not a promiscuous woman but a rejected woman!

  • “Dear John“ letter 5x

  • She possibly sinned in her 6th relationship due to using it as a way to “cope/numb out” from root of resection.

Isaiah 5:18

“What sorrow for those who drag their sins behind them with ropes made of lies, who drag wickedness behind them like a cart!

A rope made of FACTS & LIES

(Facts are not truths!)

Satan will use “facts” to reinstate & remind us that the rejection was real; while God will use TRUTH to remind us that “even-though” we’ve been rejected by man— we are NOT rejected by our Maker! He finds us precious, valuable, worthy & wonderfully made!

  • Jesus narrows in on the ROOT so that she would bear GODLY FRUIT!

  • Jesus told her “EVERYTHING SHE DID.”

  • maybe it was:

  1. She didn’t gossip about ex husband— she DID that.

  2. She fed homeless man when she had nothing. She DID that.

  3. She cried out to God in her heartache. She DID that.

The town was used to hearing all the things the woman DID NOT!!

👉Did NOT pls husband

👉Did NOT fit box of a wife

👉Did NOT meet expectations

👉Did NOT perform well

👉Did NOT cook well

ETC……

Maybe “He told me everything I’ve ever done,” was conquering lies/facts of rejection  with truths of love????

JOSEPH STORY:

GEN 50:19-21

  • Joseph- “what you intended for harm, God meant for good!”Can I judge you!?”

  • Joseph refused to get BITTER so that God could make Him BETTER.

  • My choice: PAYBACK or PROMISE?

  • Joseph viewed brothers rejection NOT as a STUMBLING-BLOCK but a STEPPING-STONE

——————-

DAVID ROCK STORY:

2 Samuel 16:5-13

  • David story of NOT punishing man who was throwing rocks, slandering & cursing at him.

  • “ perhaps the Lord will see that I am being wronged and will bless me because of these curses today.”

  • David chose PROMISE over PAYBACK

  • BLESSING OVER BITTERNESS

————————

R E A D :

BEATITUDES (Matt 5)

God’s “PROMISE”

Def of Beatitude= “supreme blessings”

Jesus in the boat story :

Matt 8:35-9:1

  • one side praised him… the other rejected him. He received neither!

  • Jesus didn’t try & convince them to accept or wear the “disease to please”

Whether He was REJECTED or ACCEPTED—

👉JESUS KNEW HIS IDENTITY in the middle of His boat where he could be anchored to His Father— the only opinion that mattered⚓️
