Parable of the Sower
Matthew 13:1-23/ Mark 4:1-25 / Luke 8:4-15
1. The Sower – Without the Sower nothing happens. He is the one who delivers the word. Living out the great commission.
a. He is ambitious and does the work required – (2 Timothy 2:15 Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman who needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth)
b. (Proverbs 11:30 – The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life and he who is wise wins souls)
c. He Scattered liberally – He didn’t prepare the soil and do a massive amount of work to get everything just right before he started scattering the seed.
2. On The Road
a. Immediately Satan comes and takes away the word which has been sown in them. (Ephesians 6:12&13 – For wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13- Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground…
b. Hardened hearts without the capability of hearing the word at the moment.
3. Rocky Places
a. They receive it with Joy, but they have no firm root
i. No foundation/ root leads to falling away as soon as persecution or affliction comes
b. 1 Corinthians 3:11-15 – no other foundation
c. This isn’t simply saying a prayer and going on with life.
4. The Thorns
a. Worries of the world and deceitfulness of riches, and love of the world choke it out.
b. 1 John 2:15-17 Love not the world neither the things in the world if any man loves the world the love of the father is not in him
c. There are some thorny bushes with some nice fruit eg. Raspberry bushes.
5. Good Soil
a. Those who hear it and accept it and bear fruit.
b. John 12:24-26 A seed must die to bear fruit.
c. Produce a crop! Some 30, some 60, some 100x what was sown.
