May 3, Colossians 1:6 Bible Study Notes

Welcome!

This blog is used to share some of our notes from each day’s journaling while we were in Bible study with The Holy Spirit. At the bottom of each blog page, you’ll see which Bible we used and additional resources that may have informed our thinking and learning. We are curious and humble #Biblenerds. Each day we GET TO use the Word of God to learn more about His never-changing character, how much Jesus loves us and how The Holy Spirit guides us through a heart transformation one verse at a time. The Bible reads us just as much as we read It.

We hope these perfectly imperfect notes help you as you join us weekday mornings 8:00 - 9:00 EST via Facebook & Youtube. And, of course, we welcome you whenever and wherever you get a chance to learn along with us!

In His Love,

Joy Lee & Tara Ouellette

Joy’s Notes:

  1. This same Good News that came to you (it comes to us)

  2. is going out all over the world. (No power in hell can stop it!🙌)

  3. It is bearing fruit everywhere (by changing lives),

  4. just as it changed your lives from the DAY you first (1)HEARD and (2)UNDERSTOOD it.”(We need both information AND revelation)

  5. And T R U L Y understood the truth of God’s wonderful GRACE. (Not His wrath, etc... but His underserved GRACE!)

(Redemptive love)

BEGIN:

STORY of KING JOSIA:

2 kings 22

  • repaired the abandoned & polluted temple

  • The priest found the Bible in the temple

  • They read it to king Josiah

  • “When he heard what it said, he tore his clothes in despair”

  • King Josiah read the books of the Bible to ALL of Judah - from least to greatest

♥️🙌PASSOVER was celebrated again (big party!!)

Passover was a sign of Gods GRACE—CELEBRATION OF GODS  G R A C E !

“Never before had there been a king like Josiah who turned to the Lord with ALL his heart & soul & strength”

ALL BECAUSE HE:

  1. Heard the word

  2. Understood theword

  3. RECEIVED the undeserved grace

This is a direct EXAMPLE of how the Word should effect Our  hearts & lives!!

Q U E S T I O N :

  • Is the Bible CHANGING your life??????

“ satan‘s greatest weapon is man’s ignorance of God’s word” ~ A.W Tozer

C H A R A C T E R & I N T E G R I T Y:

(Bearing fruit)

Character & integrity: “The ability to handle the demands of reality.”’

~Ron Carpenter

👉Reality= trials,  heartaches, fears, uncertainties, tribulations, troubles, grief, pain, etc .

  • “My character is defined by how I act when no one is looking! “

My disciplines that turn into my delights will dictate my decisions & ultimately my destiny !

👉Gods GRACE— which Gives me the desire for discipline—is the Remedy to ALL our character defects, our sin issues, our shame, greed, idolatry, love deprivation, etc

👉Enabling us to WALK IN character & integrity (not perfection)

  • “Your daily private choices either promote you or expose you”

CHARACTER CHANGE HAPPENS WHEN:

👉I’mNo longer reading the Bible, but it’s now reading me!

  • “It’s not only about being saved as it is about NOT being a jerk anymore!” -Gary Thomas

The queen of all character virtues is =

H U M I L I T Y (all fruits are produced from posture of humility)!

👆

BUT Wounded people have trouble with humility.”

~ Joyce meyer

(Pride is the posture of Satan.)

HUMILITY begins with:

👇

Break-down(admit sin)

Break-open

Break-through

👇

But we instead go around the BREAKING— producing PLASTIC FRUIT!!!

     👇

  • & NEVER deal with our woundedness🥲

————

CONQUERING VS.

NEGOTIATING

  • 1 & 2 kings were constantly faced to engage in battle with their enemy.

But instead, many cowardly kings chose negotiating instead of conquering

  • Jacob & Esau= Negotiated his birthright for soup... (INSTEAD OF FIGHTING THE BATTLE AGAINST INSTANT GRATIFICATION)

💪Fruits of character are born when MY APPETITES ARE TESTED

  • 👉Always negotiating with Satan & never conquering him.

             (WHOA!)

We give Satan the gold & bronze from our temple😩

Instead of:

  • PICKING UP

     OUR SWORD,

  • CUTTING OUT THE ROOT

  • having VICTORY🙌

It’s time we stop

Living with plastic fruit faith - causing us to remain in continual cycled bondage to Shame, to anger, to character defects that hurt ourselves & those closest to our hearts

“When I find I’m not enough, Grace says I am ♥️

Tara’s Notes:

Col 1:6

This same Good News that came to you

Is going out all over the world

It is changing lives everywhere

Just as it changed yours

that very first day you heard and understood the truth about

God’s great kindness to sinners. (and knew the grace of God in truth)

❤️Personal spiritual growth AND spreading new growth

❤️The grace of God in truth.

My journal reflections:

🥴Too often, believers share and worry more about the bad news (people’s sin or keep talking about our own).  Father, search my heart. What’s the ratio of how often I’m talking about and sharing the Good News over the bad news of this world or my circumstance? Am I spreading more fear, guilt, shame – bad news and not sharing the grace of God in truth? Instead sharing facts & circumstances & reality

🙌🏻✝️ What brought forth CHANGE in my life (Kairos moment)?  Why did I choose God, Jesus, H.S. ?

I remember reading from Acts (as I like to do between Easter and Pentecost. Pentecost is May 23, 50 days after Easter Sunday. Hmmm…why don’t we celebrate this time of the Holy Spirit on the early followers of Jesus as well as recognizing the foundation of our church?) Anywho, the Spirit of God is ALWAYS present when the Good News is spoken.  Acts 11:15 Peter began to share the Good News and the Holy Spirit fell on them- just as it had fell on them in the beginning.

So with this information all throughout the Bible, why don’t I and other believers talk about the Good News more often? It’s our responsibility to have it go out everywhere. We are the vessels, the conduits to connect God to others. How am I doing in my day-to-day life? I want THIS for everyone, everywhere!
