“Please give my greetings to our brothers and sisters at Laodicea, and to Nympha and the church that meets in her house.”

What church meets in YOUR house? (Of your heart)

👉she OPENED up her home to BE the church !!

Nymphs means= BRIDE

The church is the BRIDE of Christ! (Eph)

  • we ARE the church!!!

5 lessons we can learn from nympha on how to BE the church:


  1. FIRST - being the church requires a Break down, break open, break through

 (FUll SURRENDER to encounter Jesus’ love )

  • nympha had to FIRST receive & cleave to Gods love before she could BE His church

  • (Character development, empathy, wisdom, hunger for HIM)


  1. Being the church requires a Holy Spirit infused COURAGE!

Could of been killed for opening up her home 

  • Acts 4:13:

“When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.”

  • Courage REVEALS that we’ve “been with Jesus!”


  1. Being the church requires a heart to serve & not be served

PRACTICALLY- Food prep, washing feet, cleaning house, etc)

  • Risked vulnerability.

Letting people into your “home” requires honesty & vulnerability.

👉 people are messy (not afraid of their messy)

👉 being the church means being a HEART HOSPITAL 

👉being the church means being a LIGHT HOUSE 

👉being the church means being a TOWER OF REFUGE


👉👉👉When we have been unblinded to our own pain, we now can see other peoples pain

  • Easier to shut door & lock = STAY SAFE

  • Nympha put herself at great risk to “be the church”

👉Are we opening up door of heart to let others in?

  • James 1:5 “Confess sins to one another”… THEN we will be healed!l


  1. Being the church requires healthy established boundaries

Right order -TEMPLE

(2 Corinthians -We are the temple)

  • Jesus Modeled healthy relational dynamics for us! (72-12-3)

👉 Jesus had his 12 but he also had his THREE (Peter james John) 

👉 if you don’t have your “THREE” you do now! (Father, Son & Holy Spirit)

  • Be transparent with many & vulnerable with the few


  1. Being the church requires a continual “hanging by the vine.”

  • John 15:5 “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do NOTHING!”

  • Longing for belonging is filled by God through daily “practicing the presence of God.”
