Gen 41:9-13
“Finally, the king’s chief cup-bearer spoke up. “TODAY I have been reminded of my failure,” he told Pharaoh. “Some time ago, you were angry with the chief baker and me, and you imprisoned us in the palace of the captain of the guard. One night the chief baker and I each had a dream, and each dream had its own meaning. There was a young Hebrew man with us in the prison who was a slave of the captain of the guard. We told him our dreams, and he told us what each of our dreams meant. And everything happened just as he had predicted. I was restored to my position as cup-bearer, and the chief baker was executed and impaled on a pole.”
———
“Today, I am reminded of my shortcomings.”
“Today, I recall my failures.”
“Today, I would make mention of my own offenses.”
TODAY matters to God:
If you’re not willing to do something TODAY— you’re most likely not willing to do it at all.
The tactic of Satan is to tell you that you have tomorrow!
eating right can wait til Monday
Spending time with God…
Breaking addiction
Getting counseling
Reconciling relationships
Having hard conversation
All that STALLING makes you miss the SAVING from your SAVIOR
Just stay comfortable! (Satan whispers)
But God is much more interested in your CALLING than He is in your COMFORT!
Josh 24:15 “choose for yourselves TODAY whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
Heb 3:15 “Remember what it says: “TODAY when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts as Israel did when they rebelled.”
Matt 6:34 “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. TODAYS trouble is enough for TODAY.
Psalm 90:12 “Teach me to number my days (understand TODAY matters) so that I may gain a heart of wisdom.
Psalm 118:24 “TODAY is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
______
TODAY— “I’m reminded of my shortcomings!” (Gen 41:9)
In other words…. TODAY- “ I REPENT!”
(Lord’s Prayer) “Give us this day our DAILY bread.
And forgive us our trespasses (sins) TODAY
As we forgive them that trespass against us.”
Acts 2:37
They Heard—> cut to heart —> repented!!!
Jesus, entire 3 yr. Ministry message :
1. Repent & 2. believe
IS it possible we CANNOT believe unless we repent???
UNBELIEF is the root of all sin!
Satan will do all he can do to keep you from repenting -he knows it’s the door to BELIEF!!!!
REPENTANCE= is turning from my UNBELIEF (not my sin)
If it’s turning from “sin,” it’s just behavior modification!
———
Shea’s dirty wet HEAVY laundry
fear- not just fear, but believing LIE God is not with me.
Idolatry - not just idolatry, but believing LIE God’s not enough.
Control- not just control, but believing LIE God isn’t sovereign.
Worry- not just worry, but believing LIE God can’t do it.
Shame- not just shame, but believing LIE God hasn’t forgiven me.
Gossip- not just gossip, but believing LIE God doesn’t love me.
Offense- not just offense, but the LIE I’m an Orphan
HEB 12:1 “let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.”
PUT ON WARM WHITE ROBE
The best weaponry against Satan's tactics of self-condemnation is to have a LIFESTYLE of repentance!

Beatitudes
STARTING THE NEW YEAR - “BLESSED”
Jesus teaches His disciples what it means to be “BLESSED!”
THE BEATITUES = Gives the picture of the “character” of people of God.”
we better know what “blessing” means!
Blessing is not EQUATED to:
deliverance
Breaththroughs
Healings
Prosperity
Abundance
Comfortability
Promotion
authority
These “ may” PROCEED Jesus’ 9 beatitudes.
instead, BLESSING is a call to REPENTANCE
It’s an invite to:
Kneel, reveal, feel, heal
Beatitude “ the state of utmost bliss. Great Joy. An inner peace & joy that comes from knowing God.
Beatitude= from Latin word (BEATUS) “happy/ blessed.”
The beatitudes are: the divine roadmap to happiness
These are our SPIRITUAL ROOTS!!!
JESUS flips “being happy” right-side-up!
————
1. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the Kingdom of heaven is theirs.
THIS is an invitation to evaluation!
“Uncovering what hurts, hurts” (this is why we avoid this 1st beatitude)
confession & repentance
The “breakdown”
Pain outweighs shame
• Is 66:2 “But these are the ones I look to with favor(BLESSING:)
1. The humble 2. The contrite 3. The reverent who tremble at my Word.
CONTRITE: “crippled” (Jonathon’s son)
Pain is an invitation to transformation
James 4:8-10 “Draw near to God to God & He’ll draw near to you!” (“DRAW NEAR”= contrite) Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”
⁃ “The evidence of being a Christian is not that you're sinless; it’s that you BREAK over your sin!”
(poor in spirit)
2. Blessed are the mourners, for they’ll be comforted
• mourning over sin!
2 Cor 1:4: “ He comforts me— so I can comfort others.”
Isaiah 61: 1-3 “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.”
(mourners)
3. Blessed are the GENTLE, for they’ll inherit the earth.
gentleness is a FRUIT (gal 5) produced from #2: mourning!
gentleness = meekness/ humility
Meekness isn’t weakness— it’s strength under control
Humility is proximity.
• James 4:6: “God opposes the proud, but gives GRACE to the humble!”
(gentle)
4. “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they’ll be completely satisfied!”
what are you HUNGRY for? = His affection? Her validation? Bigger ministry? Job promotion? Restored relationship? Success, bank account, book deal? Freedom?
“The greatest threat of intimacy WITH God is ministry FOR God” -Dallas Willard
He wants to be the Desire of your heart
Is there any coincidence Jesus says He’s: BREAD & WATER!!!
(hungry & thirsty)
5. Blessed are the merciful, for they’ll receive mercy!
Heb 4:16 “Come boldly to the throne of grace, so that we may receive MERCY and find Grace…”
MERCY —> TRUTH (paired in scripture)
Mercy proceeds truth
Mercy is DOOR to truth!
And the TRUTH sets the captive free!!!
Receiving mercy allows you to know your Father’s voice (truth) OVER satans (lies)
(merciful)
6. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they’ll see God!
pure in heart= integrity; Godly character, maturity
Greek meaning for “pure”- CLEAN!
“My daily private choices will either promote ME or expose ME!”
(pure in heart)
7. Blessed are the makers and maintainers of peace, for they’ll be called children of God.”
peace is a FRUIT produced from a PURE HEART!
We’re not to be: peacekeepers (“manufactured peace” —making everyone happy to keep external peace) but peacekeepers (one who keeps the God of Peace on the Throne of the heart )
Saul= tormented by a demonic spirit
King Nebuchadnezzar had everything but the PEACE to sleep!
Satan is a PEACE-THIEF
(peacemaker)
8. Blessed are those who are persecuted for doing right, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.
⁃ 2 Timothy 3:12
“ anyone anyone who lives a godly life will be persecuted.”
“If you want to be like Jesus, remember He had a wilderness, a Gethsemane, and a Judas.”
(persecuted)
9. Blessed are those who are insulted, persecuted, falsely accused, and say evil things against you; BE GLAD, BE EXCEEDINGLY JOYFUL, for your reward is in heaven.”
Jesus repeats this TWICE— He’s confirming and emphasizing we WILL be persecuted…
“Praise God” (STORY) - be glad; exceedingly joyful!
John 15:20: “ They persecuted me, they’ll persecute you!”
The Beatitudes are in RIGHT ORDER
1. Poor in spirit
2. (That leads to:) Mourning
3. (That leads to fruit of: ) Gentleness
4. (That leads to fruit of: ) Hungering & thirsting
5. (That leads to fruit of: ) being Merciful
6. (That leads to fruit of: ) Pure in heart
7. (That leads to fruit of: ) Peacemaker
8. (That leads to: ) Persecution from the world.. (leading back to poor in spirit ….) REPEAT cycle!
“I HAVE TOLD YOU THESE THINGS, SO THAT IN ME YOU MAY HAVE PEACE… IN THIS WORLD YOU WILL HAVE TROUBLE— BUT TAKE HEART!
I HAVE OVERCOME THE WORLD!” (John 16:33)
