June 4, Col 1:28 Bible Study Notes

Welcome!

This blog is used to share some of our notes from each day’s journaling while we were in Bible study with The Holy Spirit. At the bottom of each blog page, you’ll see which Bible we used and additional resources that may have informed our thinking and learning. We are curious and humble #Biblenerds. Each day we GET TO use the Word of God to learn more about His never-changing character, how much Jesus loves us and how The Holy Spirit guides us through a heart transformation one verse at a time. The Bible reads us just as much as we read It.

We hope these perfectly imperfect notes help you as you join us weekday mornings 8:00 - 9:00 EST via Facebook & Youtube. And, of course, we welcome you whenever and wherever you get a chance to learn along with us!

In His Love,

Joy Lee & Tara Ouellette

Joy’s Notes:

Notes (thank you ♥️)

Col 1:28

“(1) He is the one we proclaim, admonishing (warning) and teaching everyone with all (2)wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully (3)mature in Christ.”

——-

(1) “HE IS THE ONE WE PROCLAIM.” (Not ourselves!!!)

👇

1 cor 3:4-7

“When one of you says, “I am a follower of Paul,” and another says, “I follow Apollos,” aren’t you acting just like people of the world?

After all, who is Apollos? Who is Paul? We are only God’s servants through whom you believed the Good News. Each of us did the work the Lord gave us.

👉I planted the seed in your hearts,

👉Apollos watered it,

👉but it was God who made it grow”

• Paul recognized ONLY God can make a person grow.

• we can plant seeds & pour water over it... but without the S O N, it will wither.

“Light is required by all plants to conduct photosynthesis to make use of and develop nutrients— and without it they cannot survive to reach a full lifespan. Many plant species can technically grow to a degree without light but they cannot develop, perform or reproduce to its FULL MATURITY!Seeds can germinate without light and small roots and seedling plants can grow but they will be weak and likely not be viable unless placed into a LIGHTED setting.

• no matter how much planting & watering we do— when we don’t include or allow the Holy Spirit to be the SUNLIGHT .... they will not thrive.

• secular counseling & “tools” are: helpful but not successful WITHOUT THE SON

1 John 1:5

“God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.

Matthew 28:3

“And his appearance is like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow.”

John 8:12

““I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Rev 22:5

“There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give (& be) their light...”

Moses— face lit up

Stephan- face lit up

Jesus— (Transfiguration with Moses and Elijah- Peter, James, John)“ his face shine like the sun, and his garmentsBecame as white as the light.”

When we are providing Godly “tools” by planting seeds & watering— we will not see growth & maturity in others if the SON is not invited in to grow the seed!

• You are NOT responsible for another persons growth... that is the SON’s!

(2) W I S D O M

(“and teaching everyone with all wisdom”, )

Wisdom is a “Who” not a “What”

1 cor 1:24

“Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. (Jesus IS Wisdom)

Colossians 2:3

"In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."

• We don’t have to worry about finally reaching enough wisdom to share Jesus— Jesus is the wisdom!

• when we rely on Jesus to do the growing after we’ve planted & watered— this IS WISDOM!

(3) MATURE IN CHRIST

⁃ before we can help someone become mature in Christ, we must FIRST be maturing in Christ!

👇👇👇👇

#1. Jer 4:3 “Plow up the hard ground of your hearts:” ....

• Read (let Word read you)

• Reflect (on Gods love)

• Receive (your identity)

• Reveal (let Him expose sin)

• Repent (confess it)

• Relinquish (let go)

• Request

• Rejoice

#2. Have a: PAUL, BARNABAS & TIMOTHY in your life. (Mentorship, fellowship, discipleship)

#3. Guard-rail your inputs (we become what our inputs are)

#4. Write out your identity & place EVERYWHERE (especially on tablet of heart) 👇

⁃ (“Never make a permanent decision on a temporary emotion .”)

• We permanently believe a WARPED-IDENTITY based on a temporary emotion!

#5. Ask God for your mission statement & have the courage, boldness, perseverance, determination to live it out!🙌

MISSION STATEMENT:

(Example)

“to allow God to use me in anyway thats most purposeful in order to expand His kingdom & extend the knowledge of His love.”

#6. PRESS REPEAT
