June 1 Colossians 1:25 Bible Study
Welcome!
This blog is used to share some of our notes from each day’s journaling while we were in Bible study with The Holy Spirit. At the bottom of each blog page, you’ll see which Bible we used and additional resources that may have informed our thinking and learning. We are curious and humble #Biblenerds. Each day we GET TO use the Word of God to learn more about His never-changing character, how much Jesus loves us and how The Holy Spirit guides us through a heart transformation one verse at a time. The Bible reads us just as much as we read It.
We hope these perfectly imperfect notes help you as you join us weekday mornings 8:00 - 9:00 EST via Facebook & Youtube. And, of course, we welcome you whenever and wherever you get a chance to learn along with us!
In His Love,
Joy Lee & Tara Ouellette
Joy’s Colossians 1:25 notes:
“God has given me the responsibility of serving his church by proclaiming his entire message to you (“to present to you the word of God in its fullness)” NIV

We can’t share the FULLNESS-of-Gods-Word until we know the FULLNESS-of-Gods-Love!
👇
& the FULLNESS of Gods love is found only in JESUS

Woman at the well (John 4:10)
👇
4 STRIKES AGAINST HER:
1. A woman
2. A Samaritan woman (Northern Israel exiled to Assyria- came back to N. Israel & intermarried )
3. A Samaritan woman Known to be living in sin
4. A Samaritan woman known to be living in sin who had been ostracized by her family & community
Jesus’ first words he spoke to her (question): “Will you give me a drink?”
Will you give me your marriage?
Will you give me your fear?
Will you give me your heartache?
Will you give me your child?
Will you give me your ministry/ church, etc
Will you give me your finances?
Will you give me your heart?
Will you give me your bitterness
Will you give me your frustration?
Will you give me your grudge?
Will you give me your injustice?
Will you give me your unforgiveness?
Will you give me your shame?
Will you give me your life??
Will you give me your water?
V. 4:10 Jesus said....
“ B U T if you knew the gift God has for you and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would’ve asked ME and I would’ve given you living water!”
• When I know the GIFT God’s given me — my heart automatically ASKS him, instead of him having to ask me!!!
Instead, I will ask....
Will you take my marriage?
Will you take my fear?
Will you take my heartache?
Will you take my child?
Will you take my ministry/ church, etc
Will you take my finances?
Will you take my bitterness?
Will you take my anger?
Will you take this injustice?
Will you take my unforgiveness?
Will you take my heart?
Will you take my water jug?
AND he not only takes our “water”— he then in return promises to return it as “Living water.”
• He takes my ashes & turns it into beauty
• He takes my mourning & turns it into an Oil of joy
• He takes my spirit of despair & turns it into a Garment of praise
~ (Isaiah 61:3)
👇
• He Takes my dead marriage and makes it a living marriage
• He takes my dead dream & makes it a living dream
• He takes my dead joy & makes it a living joy
• He takes my dead faith & makes it a living faith
• He takes my dead hope & makes it a living hope⚓️
👇
V. 4:13 “everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
👇
• The world can give us water that’s temporarily quenching ...
but ONLY Jesus can give us water thats permanently restoring.
V4:15-26
👇
(V. 4:17 —Jesus tells her she’s been married 5X & the man she’s sleeping with now is not her husband.
V.25– — I AM HE! (The messiah)
V.28 “Leaving her water jar at the well,
👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆
the woman went back to the town and said to the people: “come, see a man who told me everything I ever did.”
👇
... And He STILL loves me.
He’s forgiven me.
He’s not ostracized me.
He’s called me His own. He finds me worthy, whole, enough, sealed, loved, valuable, set apart, holy!
V.39
“Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him BECAUSE of the woman’s testimony,
👆👆👆👆👆👆👆👆
“he told me everything I ever did.”
V. 4:42 “They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said, Now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world! “
• The woman at the well had to know her IDENTITY FIRST by receiving the undeserved GRACE & LOVE of Jesus in order to share the gospel in “full”
Identity OVER theology
But we REVERSE the two & wonder why we feel the church is “passionless”
• Jesus Didn’t stop her from sharing The good news, even though she didn’t know all the books of the Bible, or have memorize scripture, or even know true theology.
• She left her worldly water sitting at the well, and that’s all that mattered to Jesus—-
• a surrendered heart that encountered Jesus 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
—> the others no longer Just counted on the woman’s testimony, they became Bible nerds and found out the theology and the right order and the love of Jesus on their own!
—-> the woman knew she was not their answer, but she could point them to THE Answer!!!🙌

Tara’s Colossians 1:25 Notes:
NLT
God: of God
has given me: made me to, have become
the responsibility : response-ability
of serving his church: minister, servant, commission, stewardship
by proclaiming : preaching, present to you
his message in all its fullness : to complete the word of God, to make the word of God fully known, to fulfill the word of God
to you Gentiles
Digging deeper into each word/phrase:
God NOT man
What God has given cannot be taken away. Never!
I’m made for a time such a this. Even if…
Even if I’ve missed the mark (sinned) and a lot of time has passed (been wasted). There is still time to become/to live into this calling from God. Just like Saul/Paul.
The responsibility
I am able to respond to His call.
No matter what – for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, till death do us part,
to serve His church
Commission meaning:
An instruction, command, or duty given to a person or group of people.
An order for something, especially a work of art, to be produced.
A work produced in response to a commission.
The authority to perform a task or certain duties.
A group of people officially charged with a particular function.
An amount of money, typically a set percentage of the value involved, paid to an agent in a commercial transaction.
A warrant conferring the rank of officer in an army, navy, or air force.
The action of committing a crime or offense.
Bring (something newly produced, such as a factory or machine) into working condition.
Bring (a warship) into readiness for active service.
Appoint (someone) to the rank of officer in the armed services.
in commission
(of a ship, vehicle, machine, etc.) in use or in service.
out of commission
Not in service; not in working order.
(of a person) unable to work or function normally, especially through illness or injury.
Co-mission
‘entrust’
Stewardship meaning: The job of supervising or taking care of something, such as an organization or property.
God is the ultimate supervisor and will always take care of me as I’m on mission.
God has entrusted me to take care of this task/mission. It’s in my hands.
by proclaiming
presenting to you – like it is a gift that we are giving others. It is THE best gift ever!
His message in its fullness
I will not leave anything out.
Poker: Don’t leave anything on the table. AKA Play your hand well so you don’t leave money.
Sports: Don’t leave anything on the field.
I want to be a fully devoted follower of Christ! I don’t want to leave anything in the field of which God has called me to work. – No excuses
To the Gentiles:
People are waiting for you.
Who are your people? (Peter – Jewish people. Paul – Gentiles)
The very person that ONLY I/YOU can reach.
