1 Peter 3:11
Joy’s Notes:
1 Peter 3:11
“Turn away from evil and do good.
Search for peace, and work to maintain it.”
————-
“Turn away”- form of repentance
My office story. I didn’t realize falling to my knees WAS Repentance
Repentance =
“allowing myself to be FOUND and brought HOME.”
👉PHARISEE yoke on REPENTANCE:
A man-centered approach to repentance
“You do the work. You do the turning around. You do the xyz.”
👉JESUS’ yoke on REPENTANCE:
A God-centered approach to repentance.
(• Parable -The sheep gets lost— shepherd finds it.
(• Parable- The coin gets lost- the woman finds it)
(• Parable- the prodigal son- the running father finds him )
👇
Two VERY DIFFERENT theologies:
1. You do it.
2. Jesus does it
(Jesus does the work by finding the lost)
My job is to ALLOW myself to be found!
Rev 3:20
“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”
And each parable of Luke 15, something is:
1. Lost
2. Found
3.Banquet Celebration
His kindness leads me to repentance! (Rom 2:4)
The Prodigal son
(Running father) :
👉man’s repentance and Gods repentance collide!
“He came to a senses”:
Actually means that he came up with his own wise plan of man-made repentance
The prodigal son was still lost when he turned to come back home!
👉 He still believed the lie that he had to work for his father‘s approval and love!
The father found him, just like the shepherd found the lost sheep, and the woman found the coin!
The father found him in his wandering heart and placed a robe, ring, and sandals on his feet!!
The father publicly covers his son with a robe!
- just like he covered Adam and Eve after they sinned!
- just like Jesus clothe naked demon possessed man
It’s God‘s way of declaring they have been made new!

CONCLUSION:
• Jesus said: “Repent & Believe.” (Mark 1:15- first words said after being in wilderness)
• NOT man-centered repentance
but….
• God centered repentance LEADS to BELIEVE!!!!!
(If I’m not believing-maybe I’m relying more on man-centered repentance than God-centered repentance )
