1 Peter 1:1 Part 2

Joy’s Notes:

• Peter is bringing together both OT & NT by reaffirming his name change (which God began in OT) & the Israelite EXILES in the wilderness.

Note to younger self

“Be the person you needed when you were younger.” (Katrina Stewart)

• Peter felt like foreigner, exile— & as result made his biggest failure of his life by denying Christ.

Idolatry was an ongoing temptation with the OT exiles

👉Peter fell because He believed Jesus had ABANDONED him!

Abandonment = fear

Withness = security

👉Peter picked up an IDOL of “FEAR-of-man”

👉man’s approval became greater then Gods.

Unbelief is the doorway to IDOLATRY 🤯🤯🤯

Idolatry is the doorway to FEAR.

the Israelites believed God had abandoned them while on the mountain with Moses.

—>FEAR caused them to take gold & melt it to form an idol.

• We turn to the idolatry when we DONT believe God is who he says he is AND that He’s deserted/abandoned us!

• We turn to idolatry to fill in the lonely gaps & become a FALSE-SENSE OF SECURITY

“I, your God, will NEVER abandon you.” (Is 41:17)

• IDOLS LIE!! They say they’ll: save you, complete you, love you— but they deplete you!

Isaiah 44:20

“The poor, deluded fool feeds on ashes. He trusts an idol that can’t help him at all. Yet he cannot bring himself to ask, “Is this idol that I’m holding in my (RIGHT) hand a lie?”

A LONGING FOR BELONGING:

• Satan will convince us we don’t belong— & feel like “foreigners”—ALONE, DIFFERENT, WIERD, TOO MUCH, NOT-ENOUGH….

All to get us to bite bait of idolatry to help relieve us from feeling so alone!

We all have a LONGING FOR BELONGING— when we feel like a foreigner, we desire to “FIT IN” & forfeit our morals, values, beliefs— all in order to “belong”

Isaiah 49:14

“Yet Jerusalem (joy) says, “The lord has forgotten us.” NEVER!!….i would NOT forget you. See— I have written your NAME on the palms of my hands!!!

👉 if I don’t know my NAME, I won’t recognize it written on the palm of Gods hands!
