This blog is used to share some of our notes from each day’s journaling while we were in Bible study with The Holy Spirit. Each day we GET TO use the Word of God to learn more about His never-changing character, how much Jesus loves us and how The Holy Spirit guides us through a heart transformation one verse at a time. The Bible reads us just as much as we read It.

Joy’s Notes:

Colossians 1:11

111– story (Eph 4:4-6)

For there is :

one body 

one Spirit,

one hope, 

one Lord, 

one faith, 

one baptism,

one God,

one Father: 

  • of ALL

 -  over ALL, 

  • in ALL,

  • living through ALL.


God makes pretty clear it’s :

J E S U S + N O T H I N G


But we add gods: 

  • Idolizing our needs (coda )

  • Idolizing our desires (addictions)

  • Idolizing our shame (perfectionism, narcissism)

  • Idolizing our lies (performance)

  • Idolizing the news (fear )

  • Idolizing our doctors opinion (anxiety)


But God says it’s NOT Jesus + my counterfeit gods = everything

     This verse tells us:


👉that PATIENT ENDURANCE can  

O N L Y  be experienced thru His power!!

BUT.....

👉His power can 

O N L Y be experienced through MY weakness

2 Corinthians 12:7-10 

“even though I have received such wonderful revelations from God. So to keep me from becoming proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to TORMENT me and keep me from becoming proud. Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me. That’s why I TAKE PLEASURE in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. 

For when I am weak, THEN I am strong.”

(Paul Wrote Colossians AFTER 2 Corinthians )

  • we can ONLY be strengthened by His power when our will-power has been crucified.

  • Is 40:29-31

—He gives power to the weak 

and ....

strength to the powerless.

—Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion.

—but they who wait (humility- not my will power to get-it-done) for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

  • Humility is what exposes Gods power but it’s pride that eliminates it!

“Children learn more by what you ARE than by what you teach.”

Jesus (my Perfect Parent) displayed humility at all times 

Phil 2:5-11

Though he was God,

    he did not think of equality with God

    as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges & 

    he took the humble position of a slave

    and was born as a human being.

When he appeared in human form,

    he humbled himself in obedience to God

    and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor

    and gave him the name above all other names,

that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,

    in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord,

    to the glory of God the Father.

JOY 

Paul wrote the “joy” book of Phil the same year He wrote Colossians! 

Paul was:

  • in a jail

  • Tormented by Satan

  • God allowing both

And he’s OVERFLOWING with joy!!!

  • The pursuit of happiness: an illusion of Satan. (It “adds” gods)

Could it be that true joy is found in our humility & weakness?  

And since joy isn’t a feeling- but a person- joy is FINALLY found while IN the humility (I am weak but ur strong)

Top 5 ways a person finds joy:

  1. Humility

  2. Humility

  3. Humility

  4. Humility

  5. Humility

we can’t HEAL until we REVEAL & we can’t REVEAL until we FEEL & we can’t FEEL until we KNEEL (HUMILITY)

  • (Which is why we say joy is found in the suffering )

My yoke is easy & my burden is light... in Me you will find REST for your soul.

 

Tara’s Notes from Journal:

Listened to Graham Cooke & Jamie Winship last 24 hours immersing myself in the understanding of how important it is to walk in the Spirit to be strengthened with His glorious power so that I will have patience and endurance needed AND to have joy.

Colossians 1:11

"We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy,"

Col 1:9-11

1.     Wise to Your will.

2.     Live, walking with the Lord, faith in action & continue to know God.

3.     Strengthened by His POWER à patience & endurance needed (for His Will/perfect plan) à filled with JOY.

1. Strengthened with all his glorious power: 

a. With HIS power

b. Not our own MIND, WILL, EMOTIONS

           

2. Patience: the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset.  i.e. long-suffering

The Holy Spirit will empower me to build this capacity to accept:

Delay

Trouble

Suffering

All the while not getting angry, upset AND actually experiencing JOY!

 

3.  Endurance: the fact or power of enduring an unpleasant or difficult process or situation without giving way.  i.e. continued existence, ability to last, make hard (not against God, but against the tactics of the enemy)

 

4.Joy: As a Christian, it’s a PERSON not an emotion or feeling like “happiness.” It’s the fruit of the Holy Spirit no matter what is going on in life.
