May 7, Colossians 1:10 Bible Study Notes
Welcome!
This blog is used to share some of our notes from each day’s journaling while we were in Bible study with The Holy Spirit. At the bottom of each blog page, you’ll see which Bible we used and additional resources that may have informed our thinking and learning. We are curious and humble #Biblenerds. Each day we GET TO use the Word of God to learn more about His never-changing character, how much Jesus loves us and how The Holy Spirit guides us through a heart transformation one verse at a time. The Bible reads us just as much as we read It.
We hope these perfectly imperfect notes help you as you join us weekday mornings 8:00 - 9:00 EST via Facebook & Youtube. And, of course, we welcome you whenever and wherever you get a chance to learn along with us!
In His Love,
Joy Lee & Tara Ouellette
Joy’s Notes:
Col 1:10 Friday
“ then the way you live, will always honor and please the Lord,
and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit.
All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better”
——————-
God references His children as a tree throughout His Word in both O.T & N.T:
Genesis 2:9, 17
Psalm 1:3
Isaiah 1:30
revelation 22:2
Jeremiah 17:7-8
Proverbs 11:28
Isaiah 44:4
Isaiah 61:3
Joel 2:22
Proverbs 11:30
Matthew 7:16-20
Matthew 21:18
Colossians 2:6-7
Hebrews 12:15
Ephesians 3:17
👉Trees planted in His Living water.
👉Trees producing Fruits
👉Trees deeply rooted
God often refers to us an Oak Tree (“That’ll produce every kind of good fruit)
👇
(Is 61:3 “they will be like great oak TREES that the Lord has planted for his own glory.”)
————————
OAK TREES:
Oak trees have over 400 species.
God chose a DIVERSE TREE to represent all His many children no matter the age, color, gender, social and economic status,
no one is excluded!
Oak trees are one of the strongest trees! (When we plant our roots in His Living water... we are STRONG!!!)

R O O T S
Oak trees have taproots
👇
Tap roots are the deepest of roots
Eph 3:16-17
“ I pray that from his glorious unlimited resources, he will empower you with inner strength through his spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your heart as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down and to God‘s love and keep you strong.” (Paul wrote this at same time he wrote Colossians !)
Tap roots store water for lean times! ( a Christian that’s not only drinking living water when they are in a drought, but one who drinks it ALL THE TIME!!!)
(No matter the droughts of life, you’ll be like..
“a tree planted by streams of water which yield its fruit in season and who’s leaves never wither— & whatever you do will prosper!”
(Psalm 1:3)
tap roots can be twice as long as the height of the oak tree!
(what’s happening in the dark that others can’t see, is where true transformation is taking place— BEING vs. DOING)
“Seeds first grow roots, before they grow shoots”
Dont discount your hidden ROOTS!!!!!
The roots of an oak tree never allow an obstacle to stop them from anchoring themselves deep into the soil or water.
If the roots encounter an obstacle, (a rock) they’ll fork and grow around it, encompassing the rock in a tight grasp, using the rock to anchor itself deeper into the soil!
(is the current obstacle in your life being used to break or make you?). WOW!!!!🙌🙌🙌
(GEN 50:20 “ you intended to harm me, but God intended it for good.”)

OAK TREE FRUITS:
acorns are the fruits of an oak tree
🌳sometimes our fruits don’t look as pretty as “her” fruits
🌳Never underestimate the power of a TINY acorn fruit!
Acorn “fruits” take 3-10 years to produce. Some take as long as 30-40 years!
Acorn fruits don’t look like much— but are not to be under estimated.
Acorns PRODUCE LIFE-(MORE OAK TREES)🙌
STATS of an acorn:
One large oak tree, (made from an acorn,) can supply a day supply of oxygen for four people.
Hospital patients have been shown to recover from surgery more quickly when There hospital room offered a view of an oak tree. They also had fewer complaints, less pain killers and left the hospital sooner.
Statistics say that people experience serenity, peace, rest and tranquility in a grove of oak trees.
Oak trees have been reported as having a relaxing affect on students studying for exams.
Studies have proven that oak trees assist in lowering heartbeats, lowering blood pressure and causing a more relaxed brain wave pattern

C L O S I N G:
Jer 17:7-8
“Blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made their Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees aren’t bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leave stay green and they never stop producing fruit. “
Tara’s Notes from Journal:
Col 1:10 NLT
Then the way you live
Will always honor and please the Lord,
And you will continually do good, kind things for others.
All the while, you will learn to KNOW God better and better.
Interlinear
To walk
worthily of the Lord
In all pleasing in every work good
Bringing forth fruit
And growing in the knowledge of God
1. To walk: to live, to follow (his will), to deport oneself (less of me, more of you)
2. Worthy: would I act or talk like that with Jesus near?
3. Pleasing good work: willing serving, your will not mine
4. Bringing forth fruit: to bear fruit (Galatians 5:22-23), to be fertile (Luke 8:15)
5. Knowledge of God: know God more every day & have full discernment
----
1. To walk: to live, to follow (his will), to deport oneself (less of me, more of you)
To live a DAILY life of fellowship with God, Jesus & the Holy Spirit
Making consistent forward progress
Doesn’t say skip (as in skip over some areas of life like somethings aren’t included)
Doesn’t say run (as in consume, ignore, get through)
Doesn’t say crawl (as in don’t trust or know how to use your own abilities or trust God to help me walk even during this tough time)
Doesn’t say sit (as in not moving into action or making forward progress)
All of this is possible b/c we are walking in the s/Spirit. We are fully dependent on Christ. We yield to his control, follow his lead, and allow him to influence our lives.
2. Worthy: would I act or talk like that with Jesus near?
What’s appropriate to Jesus? Philippians 2:1-11 What Jesus was like.
COMPASSIONATE, SERIOUS, FOCUSED, SERVANT, KIND, SELFLESS, SUBMISSIVE, OBEDIENT, MERCIFUL, FORGIVING, LOVING, GOOD, CARING, HONEST, TRUTHFUL, PEACABLE, INTIMATE, STRONG, LEADER, AUTHORITY, PATIENT,
3. Pleasing good work: willing serving, your will not mine
Prayer isn’t about bending God’s will to get what we want, it’s about seeking God’s will and then align our lives/our desires to His. Whatever it takes, wherever it takes me, whenever he wants, however…
Luke 22:44 Not my will but yours! Long-suffering & even death
4. Bringing forth fruit: to bear fruit (Galatians 5:22-23), to be fertile (Luke 8:15)
LOVE, PEACE, JOY
PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS
FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS, SELF-CONTROL
My heart is fertile and open to your will.
Not hardened
Not selective
Not self-protecting or self-promoting
Not distracted and attracted by the world
5. Knowledge of God: know God more every day & have full discernment
This is the goal: To be more and more Christ-like. To have a close, intimate relationship with God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
